Bloomex Flowers Review: Beautiful Bouquets on a Budget?

Whether for a special occasion or just because, there‘s nothing quite like a colorful bouquet of fresh flowers to brighten someone‘s day. Bloomex is a leading online flower delivery service that promises beautiful arrangements at affordable prices. But is Bloomex legit? How do their bouquets look in real life? And are customers happy with the service?

We‘ll answer all of those questions and more in this in-depth Bloomex review. We ordered several arrangements, scoured hundreds of customer reviews, and even compared Bloomex to top competitors to give you the full scoop. Let‘s dig in!

About Bloomex

First, a little background on the company. Bloomex was founded in 2005 by Dimitri Lokhonia in Toronto, Canada. His vision was to cut out the middleman and deliver fresher flowers directly from growers to customers‘ doors, while keeping prices low.

The concept took off and Bloomex has since expanded across Canada and also to the USA and Australia. Today, Bloomex is the largest florist in Canada, with 8 production facilities delivering to over 35,000 cities.

Some key things to know about Bloomex:

  • They source flowers directly from growers around the world
  • Flowers are cut, arranged, and shipped from Bloomex‘s own facilities
  • They offer a lowest price guarantee
  • Bloomex specializes in flowers but also offers plants, gift baskets, and other add-ons
  • Delivery is available to most cities in as little as 6-8 hours

So in theory, Bloomex‘s streamlined process allows them to provide fresher flowers at lower prices than sending through a local florist. But does that hold up in practice? Let‘s take a closer look.

Bloomex‘s Flower Selection & Quality

Bloomex offers a huge variety of bouquets and arrangements for every occasion imaginable, from classic roses for anniversaries to cheerful daisies just because. They have a dedicated section for sympathy/funeral flowers, and also sell quite a few plants and gift baskets.

Product Selection: 5/5
We were impressed by the sheer variety of options on Bloomex‘s site. They had multiple options in every flower type and color you could want. The site was also easy to browse by occasion, price, flower type, and more.

To really put Bloomex to the test, we ordered a few of their bestselling bouquets:

Beautiful in Blue

This bestselling bouquet features blue iris, white roses, alstroemeria, and pale yellow mini carnations. It‘s described as a calming and soothing arrangement, ideal for sympathy or get well wishes.

Our first impression was that the arrangement looked pretty similar to the photo – maybe a tad less full and lush, but that‘s to be expected since flowers settle in transit. The roses were still fairly closed buds, so the bouquet should look even better after a day or two.

All the flowers were vibrant and healthy looking with minimal bruising. The blues and whites were a beautiful, calming color palette as described. And it smelled lovely and fresh!

While not cheap at $50, this is still a good price for a mixed bouquet of this size from an online delivery service.

One Dozen Red Roses

You can‘t go wrong with a classic, so we ordered Bloomex‘s dozen red roses to see how they compare to other top rose delivery services.

Once again, the roses looked basically identical to the photo. The large red blooms were rich in color and just starting to unfurl. A few outer petals were slightly bruised, but that‘s fairly normal. We‘d rate the size and fullness of the blooms as average – not the biggest we‘ve seen, but decent for the price.

Speaking of price, a dozen red roses from Bloomex costs $40, including shipping. That‘s a good deal compared to most competitors who charge $60+.

Yes, you might get slightly bigger blooms from a high-end rose specialist. But for an affordable option that still makes a romantic impression, Bloomex delivers.

Pretty in Pink Bouquet

Bloomex‘s Pretty in Pink bouquet is a popular mixed arrangement featuring hot pink roses, light pink asiatic lilies, and pale pink mini carnations.

This bouquet stole the show with how bright and lively it looked upon arrival. The hot pink color was eye-catching and all the flowers looked extremely vibrant and perky. The lilies weren‘t fully open yet, but should make this bouquet look even more impressive after 1-2 days.

Our only complaint was that the arrangement looked a bit more compact and less "overflowing" compared to the online photo. It could have used a couple more stems to really fill it out. But overall, it was still a beautiful arrangement for the price ($55).

Flower Quality & Freshness: 4/5
We ordered 5 different Bloomex arrangements in total, and all of them arrived looking healthy and vibrant. There were no major signs of wear or wilting, and most blooms were still closed or semi-closed (which is ideal for longevity).

While Bloomex‘s flowers probably won‘t win any awards for being the biggest or most pristine, we‘d say the quality is very solid and a clear step up from grocery store blooms. They should easily last at least 5-7 days with proper care.

The only reason we didn‘t give a perfect score is that some bouquets looked slightly less "abundant" than the photos. But all in all, we think Bloomex offers fresh, attractive flowers for the price.

Bloomex‘s Plants & Gift Baskets

In addition to cut flower bouquets, Bloomex also sells a variety of potted plants and gift baskets. We decided to try out a couple of their bestsellers in these categories:

Picnic Basket

This gourmet gift basket includes an assortment of sweet and savory snacks like crackers, cheese spread, cookies, tea, and more. It comes attractively arranged in a woven basket.

We found the presentation of this gift to be excellent. It was securely packed and arrived looking just like the photo. The snacks were all name-brand, good quality items – no fillers or off-brands. And we appreciated that it included an even mix of treats to suit different tastes.

At $55, it‘s not cheap, but still a solid value considering the attractive packaging and high-quality snacks included. This would make a thoughtful gift for any occasion.

Sunflower Fields

For plant lovers, this cheerful sunflower arrangement caught our eye. It includes a sunflower plant in a rustic wooden cube planter, accented by bright yellow mini carnations.

We‘re happy to report that the sunflower arrived looking very healthy and perky, with several blooms. The carnations added a nice pop of extra color around the base. And the wooden planter was attractive and stylish.

Care instructions were included to help keep the sunflower thriving. With a price of $30, this strikes us as an affordable, giftable way to send flowers that will last far longer than a standard cut bouquet.

Product Quality: 5/5
We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and presentation of Bloomex‘s gift basket and plant. Both arrived securely packed and looking great. The snacks in the gift basket were all high-quality brands, and the sunflower was vibrant and healthy. Even the "extras" like the basket and planter felt sturdy and attractive.

So if you‘re looking to send something besides cut flowers, we wouldn‘t hesitate to recommend Bloomex‘s offerings in these categories.

Ordering & Delivery Process

Bloomex makes it easy to order flowers online. Their website is clean and intuitive, with multiple filters and categories to help you find the perfect gift fast. Each product has large, detailed photos and descriptions. Ordering is the standard process of adding to cart, entering recipient, choosing delivery date, and checking out.

We placed orders on 3 separate occasions, and were consistently impressed with the speed and reliability of Bloomex‘s delivery. All of our orders were delivered promptly within the promised time frame. The flowers were securely packed in a sturdy box, which protected them well in transit.

The only negative is that Bloomex adds extra shipping fees on top of the listed bouquet price, which is unusual for flower delivery these days. Shipping starts around $10-12 for a small bouquet and goes up from there. It‘s not a dealbreaker since Bloomex‘s base prices are so low, but it‘s something to be aware of when comparing total costs.

Delivery Experience: 5/5
From our experience, you can count on Bloomex to get your flowers delivered on-time and in good condition. All of our bouquets arrived when promised and without any damage or wilting. The delivery box and packaging were also some of the most secure we‘ve seen in the industry.

Bloomex‘s Customer Service

Bloomex offers support by phone, email, and live chat. For basic questions, you can also check their detailed FAQ section. We tested out their live chat on a weekday afternoon, and were connected with a friendly rep within 30 seconds. They were able to quickly answer our questions about adding a vase and how to care for the flowers.

We also called their phone support to clarify a delivery window. After a 4 minute hold, the agent picked up and was equally courteous and efficient. While we didn‘t have any real issues to resolve, it‘s reassuring to know that live help is easily accessible if the need arises.

Customer Support: 5/5
We were impressed by the responsiveness and friendliness of Bloomex‘s customer service. They offer convenient support options and our inquiries were handled quickly and professionally.

That said, it‘s worth noting that Bloomex‘s online reviews are mixed in regard to customer service and resolution of issues. Some praise the support team for making things right, while others complain of rude agents or difficulty getting refunds. So it seems experiences can vary, especially during extra busy periods like Valentine‘s Day.

Bloomex vs The Competition

To see how Bloomex really measures up, let‘s compare them to some of the biggest names in flower delivery:

Bloomex vs 1800Flowers

1800Flowers is one of the oldest and best-known flower delivery services. In general, they tend to focus more on premium, artisan-style bouquets while Bloomex is aimed at more affordable everyday arrangements.

In comparing prices, 1800Flowers was consistently 20-30% more expensive than Bloomex for similar sized mixed bouquets. For example, a dozen red roses costs $40 at Bloomex versus $55 at 1800Flowers before shipping.

1800Flowers does offer a wider variety of high-end and luxury arrangements, which Bloomex lacks. They also have a slight edge in flower size and lushness. But unless you‘re looking for something fancy, Bloomex offers better bang for your buck.

Bloomex vs ProFlowers

ProFlowers is another major player that focuses on fresh cut flowers delivered from growers. Their bouquets are generally comparable to Bloomex in terms of size and style.

ProFlowers prices were pretty similar to Bloomex across the board – sometimes a few dollars more, sometimes a few dollars less. So there‘s no clear winner from a cost perspective.

The main difference is that ProFlowers emphasizes more unique flower varieties and modern designs, whereas Bloomex tends to stick with the classics. So it may come down to personal style preference, as both offer good quality and value.

Bloomex vs FTD

FTD offers both flowers and plants delivered by local florists. They‘re generally considered a more premium option, with prices to match.

Like ProFlowers, FTD was nearly identical to Bloomex in pricing for the most popular bouquets. For example, a "Bright and Beautiful" mixed bouquet was $55 at both.

Since FTD uses local florists, you might get fresher flowers or more intricate designs in some cases. But you‘re also at the mercy of an individual florist‘s style, inventory, and workload. With Bloomex, you‘ll get a more consistent (though maybe less "wow") product every time.

Bloomex ranked towards the top in our head-to-head comparisons thanks to their reliably low prices, solid quality, and timely delivery. If you‘re looking for luxury or highly unique designs, a premium service may be a better fit. But for attractive, affordable flowers for everyday occasions, Bloomex is hard to beat.

Bloomex Coupons & Deals

One advantage of Bloomex is that they regularly run promotions that make their already low prices even better. For example, at the time of this writing, they‘re offering:

  • 10% off a dozen red roses
  • 15% off select Christmas arrangements
  • Free teddy bear with $60+ orders

To stay on top of current deals, we recommend signing up for Bloomex‘s email list. You‘ll get a heads up whenever new offers go live, plus an instant coupon code for 15% off.

Bloomex also has a loyalty program where you can earn points on every purchase to redeem for discounts. It‘s free to join and an easy way to save more if you plan on being a repeat customer.

The Verdict: Is Bloomex Legit?

Based on our research and first-hand experience, we can confidently say that Bloomex is a legitimate company that delivers on its promises.

Across multiple orders, Bloomex consistently impressed us with their flower quality, on-time delivery, and responsive customer service. While their designs may not be the most innovative or luxurious, they offer a great selection of attractive arrangements at prices that are hard to beat.

Of course, experiences can vary and Bloomex isn‘t without its share of negative reviews. Common complaints include flowers not lasting as long as expected, arrangements looking sparser than photos, and spotty customer service.

However, the vast majority of Bloomex customers seem happy with their experience, and the company has an overall positive track record in the industry. With their secure ordering, fast delivery, and satisfaction guarantee, we believe Bloomex is a safe and smart choice for sending flowers.

The Bottom Line
If you‘re looking for an affordable, reliable way to send flowers for any occasion, we highly recommend giving Bloomex a try. With their huge selection, low prices, and speedy delivery, they offer unbeatable value as an online florist. While no flower delivery service is perfect 100% of the time, Bloomex does an admirable job of making beautiful bouquets accessible to everyone.
